Most desirable were the 17 lithographs by the English artist Ethel Gabain (1883-1950). One of the few women of her generation to be able to make a living as a lithographer, Gabain and her husband, the well-known English print maker John Copley, lived for some years in Italy where both were inspired to do some of their finest work- With this edition of Jane Eyre renowned to be her most illustrious. Fluid and beautifully executed, Gabain's lithographs have a distinctive cachet which lend themselves most perfectly to Bronte's exquisite and evocative prose. Truly a most inspiring production.
